The United Overseas Bank Group (‘UOB Group’) is committed to maintaining best Privacy Practices. We encourage our customers to similarly observe best practices that are within their control.
Our best practices include:
- Collection of customer information: We will not make unsolicited requests for customer information through email or the telephone, unless customers initiate contact with us. We will use any information collected as minimally as possible, mainly to assist us in customising and delivering services and products that are of interest to our customers.
- Handling of customer information: We have established strict confidentiality standards for safeguarding information on our customers.
- Disclosure of customer information: We will not disclose customer information to external parties, unless we have the customer's agreement or are required by law to do so.
- Compliance by external parties: External parties who, in the course of providing support services to us, may come into contact with customer information, are required to observe our privacy standards.

Handling of individual information
We are aware that the personal information provided by our customers is the important property of each customer and its appropriate protection and use is one of our most important considerations.
We hereby declare that we comply with the following and make efforts at all times to accomplish appropriate protection and use of customers' personal information:
- We will comply with all applicable laws, regulations and guidelines in relation to customers' personal information, and safeguard, according to strict standards of security and confidentiality, any information our customers share with us.
- We will collect customers' personal information in a lawful and fair manner. And unless the customers' consent is obtained or other exceptions apply, we will limit the use of personal information to the minimum we require for implementing the purpose of use.
- We will permit only authorised employees, who are trained in the proper handling of customer information, to have access to that information.
- We will establish measures as necessary to prevent leakage, loss or destruction of, or safeguarding of, personal information and implement such measures strictly. We will also establish a system and manual to deal with emergency situations.
- We will not provide the customers' information to external parties unless one of the following applies:
- the customer agrees to such provision;
- such provision is required by applicable laws;
- such provision is required for the protection of human life, physical health or property;
- support services are outsourced to other organisations;
- we co-use with the co-users as mentioned;
- Japan Bankers Private Credit Information Center (‘JBPCIC’)
- Private Credit Information Organisations (PCIOs) allied with the JBPCIC
- Japanese Bankers Association (JBA)
- any other special reason applies.
- Whenever we hire other organisations to provide support services, we will require them to conform to our internal rules regarding safeguarding of personal information and supervise them as necessary and appropriate, including auditing them for compliance with our internal rules.
- We will attempt to keep customer files complete, up-to-date and accurate. We will tell our customers how and where to conveniently access their account information handled by us, such as name and home address. If there is a request for disclosure, correction and suspension of use of the personal information which we deal with, upon confirmation that such request is made by the customer himself/herself or the proxy authorised by the customer, we will take such measures for disclosure, correction and suspension of use unless there is any special reason not to do so.
- We will continuously attempt to improve on this promise to customers.
Scope of Business Operation
Accepting deposits, dealing with domestic exchange, providing loans, dealing with foreign exchange and other operations incidental thereto; and
- Other business operations which a bank can operate and other operations incidental thereto (including those which a bank will come to operate).
Purpose of Use for General Bank Product
- To deal with opening of accounts for various financial products, transactions, applications of the financial products and services with customers;
- To confirm the identity of customers pursuant to the law concerning identification of customers by financial institutions or to confirm the eligibility of customers for the financial products and services;
- To manage continuous transactions, such as controlling the date of depositing or foreign exchange;
- To make decisions on or manage applications for loans or other continuous transactions;
- To make decisions on the appropriateness of the financial products and services, in light of the principles of suitability, etc;
- To disclose to third parties to the extent necessary for proper operation of the business, such as disclosing the personal information to private credit information institutions in relation to providing credit;
- To properly handle the personal information entrusted by other business entities when any part or all of the handling is entrusted;
- To exercise the rights or implement the obligations under agreements with customers or laws;
- To research and develop financial products and services by conducting market research, data analysis and questionnaires;
- To propose financial products and services, such as sending direct mail;
- To propose the products and services of allied companies;
- To deal with termination of transactions or management after the termination; and
- To properly and smoothly implement the transactions with customers.

Procedure of Disclosure Request
To request disclosure of your own personal information in custody of UOB Tokyo Branch, please follow the procedures below;
- Approach United Overseas Bank Limited, Tokyo Branch to obtain the prescribed “Disclosure Request Form For Personal Information”.
- Bring along with you some form of identification for verification (Driving Licence or Passport) and the registered seal if necessary.
- Submit the above form. (The form may be sent via post later.)
- The requested information will be sent to the registered address by registered mail in a week or longer, depending on the requested items.
- Please note that there will be a basic charge of JPY1,050 for each Disclosure Request. The charges vary depending on the items besides the basic information.

Disclosure to and Use of Personal Information by Private Credit Information Organisations and Their Members
- We are obtaining customers' consent to disclosure and use of personal information by Private Credit Information Organisations (’PCIO’) and their members (including our Bank) by application forms or agreements, etc., as required under Article 23.1 of the Private Information Protection Law:
- If customers' personal information (including the content of agreements and the situation of repayment put on record by members, and dishonoured cheques and the information listed in the official gazette such as information on bankruptcy put on record by PCIOs) is put on record with the PCIOs to which we are a member or other PCIOs allied therewith, we will use it for the purpose of determining whether to provide credit (i.e., research on capacity for repayment and new address; provided that research on capacity for repayment shall be limited to investigations of capacity for repayment); and
- The following personal information (including the changes thereto) which the PCIOs to which we are a member will be put on record with themselves, and the members of such PCIOs and other PCIOs allied therewith will use it for the purpose of determining creditworthiness:

- We co-use the personal data as follows pursuant to Article 23.4.3 of the Private Information Protection Law with the PCIOs. However, as for agreements entered into after the full enactment of the Private Information Protection Law (April 1, 2005), we must also obtain customers' consent as mentioned above in Paragraph 1:
- Items of personal data to be co-used: information listed in the official gazette (name, address, any adjudication of bankruptcy, date, etc.);
- Scope of co-users: members of the Japan Bankers Private Credit Information Center (‘JBPCIC’) and the Japanese Bankers Association(’JBA’):
Note: JBPCIC is established by PCIO and managed by JBA to which the following members belong:
- banks which are regular members of JBA;
- other banks except as mentioned in (i) above and financial institutions treated like banks under the laws;
- governmental financial institutions or their equivalents;
- credit guarantee associations as established pursuant to the Credit Guarantee Associations Law (Law No. 196 dated as of August 10, 1953, as amended); and
- entities dealing with providing credit to individuals on the recommendation of members falling into any of categories (i) through (iii) above.
- Purpose of use: determination of creditworthiness by members of JBPCIC;
- Name of the entity responsible for safeguarding the personal data: JBA.
- In addition to the purposes mentioned above, the personal information will be mutually disclosed to and used by the PCIOs and their members to the extent necessary for the purposes of safeguarding and securing the proper use of the personal information, such as maintenance of its accuracy and updating, dealing with complaints, and monitoring by the PCIOs for compliance with regulations by the members.
